Guernsey Golfers are all Hearts & Smiles

The big-hearted golfers of Guernsey (plus two teams from the mainland) turned out in force for the annual Hearts & Smiles Guernsey Golf Day and Dinner, held at a sun-drenched La Grande Mare Resort on the island's beautiful west coast. As always the golf was keenly contested, with the team from MGC Group eventually pipping last year's winners, Pinnacle Group, to the title. That said, with course and conditions close to perfect, everyone left the course with smiles on their faces.

With nobody managing a hole-in-one at the 10th, where the prize for doing so was a new car supplied by Le Mont Saint Garage, LGM's new club pro, John Dent, added to the fun by offering participants a chance to 'beat the pro' from the 11th tee. Only four golfers managed to do so, including two of the Guernsey Ladies golf team (in their final round before heading off for the Island Games).

The golf was followed by an excellent dinner attended by over 70, and a surprise appearance by former Ryder Cup golf star, Steve Richardson, who kindly donated a signed golf shirt and cap as an extra lot the auction.

We'd like to thank everyone who took part in the event, the many generous hole sponsors and auction lot donors, and all at La Grande Mare - with a special mention for the unflappable Jaine Vermeulen - for their generous support. Huge thanks also to Rotary Club of Guernsey, but most of all to Nigel & Jocelyn Dorey, and Paul Wheatley who work so hard to ensure this event is a great success each year.

If you enjoy your golf, make a note in your diary for next year's Guernsey Golf Day - you won't regret it.
