On the 10th-11th January William Nunn will be rowing 24 hours for charity, whilst attempting to break the ‘Age 19 & Under’ 24 hour British & World record, on a Concept 2 rowing machine. Being a local lad & having friends who have used the facilities at the Wessex Neurological Centre he feels passionately about the difference the new Children's Neurosciences Centre can make.
William is a 1st year Sports Science-Biomedicine student at the University of The West of England, and an active member of the UWEBC Senior Mens Squad and has been rowing for around 5 years now. From picking up his first oar at Picton Rowing Club in New Zealand, to winning Hampshire & Dorset Championships for Southampton ARC. Becoming a senior oarsman at Coalporters ARC, and now having represented his University in the 1st VIII. Having experienced a variety of challenges in the sport, he now feels it is time to push the boat out even further (excuse the pun), and raise money for fantastic causes whilst doing so.
This is what William has to say about the world record attempt:
'I am lucky enough to have Andrew Hammond, the current holder of the world record as my coach for the 24 hour row. After Henley Royal Regatta I will be undertaking 3 months of intensive training, rowing well in excess of 2 million meters, all in the aid of charity!
The current World record stands at: 265,380m. Held by Andrew Hammond (UK) (Southampton Solent BC / Coalporters Rowing Club) set in 2011.
